What will be an ideal response?

In the negative ion mode, an IMS instrument using a 63Ni source is essentially two-dimensional
ECD. The ionization process is the same, but in the case of IMS, the ion/molecule clusters that
result from interactions in the source are introduced into the drift tube for separation based on
size/charge ratio. In an ECD, all that is sensed is the change in the steady state current that
results from these reactions.
