Why is nitrogen not included in the shortcut equation for determining oxygen balance (12.1)? Do you see any potential problems with this?

What will be an ideal response?

Because we assume that the nitrogen forms N2 only. If this is the case, then the nitrogen does
not have any effect on oxygen balance. It is likely that some amount of NO and NO2 species are
formed during a reaction, a possibility which is not incorporated into the shortcut approach.
